Cabinet Noir Express is a bold new extension of the renowned streetwear brand Cabinet Noir, strategically located on one of Perth’s most prestigious designer boutique streets, alongside iconic luxury brands like Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. With its reputation for cutting-edge streetwear and urban culture, Cabinet Noir wanted to bring that same ethos into the coffee scene, creating a space that reflected both its brand’s distinct identity and the elevated standards of its high-end neighbours.
BHO Interiors was brought on board to take this vision and transform the modest 45 sq m space into a creative and functional experience that would stand out on the luxury strip. The challenge of designing within a long, narrow area with high ceilings was met with innovation and flair, resulting in a layout that redefined conventional coffee shop design.
One of the most striking features of Cabinet Noir Express is its clever use of space. Instead of opting for traditional tables and chairs, BHO Interiors took full advantage of the tall, narrow room by introducing “steps” that double as seating areas. This unconventional seating arrangement adds a layer of urban creativity to the space, turning it into a unique social hub that feels modern and dynamic. The tiered seating not only maximises functionality within the limited square footage but also reflects the bold, streetwise aesthetic of the Cabinet Noir brand.
The hip-hop streetwear vibe that Cabinet Noir is known for is seamlessly integrated into the design, with every detail carefully considered to align with the brand’s identity. The interior is a sleek combination of polished concrete and plaster, creating an industrial yet refined look that mirrors the urban roots of street culture. Adding to the ambience are the LED strip lights embedded into the steps, which provide a soft, modern glow that elevates the space while contributing to its edgy, minimalist design. The lighting design creates a dramatic visual effect, especially in the evening, and ensures the space feels both intimate and energetic.
On the opposite side of the stepped seating, guests are treated to a gallery-style display wall that showcases the Barbagallo Art collection, providing a refined artistic element that balances the gritty street aesthetic. The juxtaposition of high-end art against the raw, industrial design of the space creates a contrast that feels fresh and innovative.
The coffee station itself, another masterstroke of design, is intentionally positioned at the back of the space. This strategic placement encourages customers to walk through the entire interior, taking in the design, seating, and art display before arriving at the counter to order their coffee. It’s a thoughtful, experiential journey that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Cabinet Noir Express, making the act of getting coffee more than just a transaction—it’s an experience that aligns with the brand’s ethos of blending fashion, culture, and creativity.
